because they may not want their money to just disappear, they will do whatever they can to get consistent results and sacrifice their own capital, which I think is a mistake.

If you experience a floating minus, it is usually because you cannot open a position properly and you do not want your position to lose, so you always hold it and that is not a good thing.

Most people only want to receive profits and do not want to accept losses, therefore holding onto a floating minus is a mistake that will actually make you lose money.
